ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, experienced a global outage, leaving many users unable to access the service. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, numerous reports surfaced indicating widespread accessibility issues with the OpenAI platform.
The reports indicated that approximately 91% of users encountered problems accessing ChatGPT. Around 7% of users reported being unable to access the website altogether, while the remaining users faced difficulties logging into their ChatGPT accounts.
Frustrated users turned to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns and report the disruption.
OpenAI's Response
OpenAI acknowledged the outage through its official status page. The company cited "increased latency and errors" as the primary issues affecting both ChatGPT and its associated APIs.
Service Restoration
Fortunately, the issue has been resolved, and ChatGPT is now back online. According to the official OpenAI Status page, the latency issues have been rectified, and "performance is now back to normal".
The TOI Tech team independently verified the restoration by accessing ChatGPT via both the web interface and the mobile application. In both instances, ChatGPT appeared to be functioning correctly without any apparent problems.
