Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has suggested that Jofra Archer could make a sensational return to the Test arena in the second Test against India at Edgbaston. This speculation arose even before England officially named Archer in the squad for the match on Thursday.

Jofra Archer prepares to bowl for Sussex, hinting at a return to form.

Archer, whose last Test appearance was in February 2021, recently played for Sussex in a first-class match against Durham. While he only managed to secure one wicket, his overall rhythm and fitness have been seen as positive indicators by the England team management.

Speaking on the "For The Love of Cricket" podcast, Broad commented, "He (Jofra Archer) played for Sussex this week, has taken a couple of wickets and looks like he's building up. And all the rumors and talk around the press box is he comes in at Edgbaston and he plays."

Jos Buttler echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism about Archer's chances: "Hopefully he'll come through that game. He's playing up at Chester-le-Street unscathed. Looks like he's bowling well and he's actually put together a real bank of cricket."

Buttler also highlighted the significance of Ben Stokes's availability as a bowler. This could potentially ease Archer's workload if he were to feature in the Edgbaston Test.

Broad went even further, advocating for Archer's inclusion in the starting XI. "Yeah, I think I play him, you know, I think if it was my decision, I'd play him… He's got a bouncer that makes everyone jump. So I'd be really, I'd be tempted to play him and I think every England fan would be buzzing if you saw Jofra Archer's name on that team sheet."

Following their thrilling victory in Leeds, where Ben Duckett and Jamie Smith led a successful run-chase, England now hold a 1-0 lead in the series. The potential inclusion of Archer's pace and aggression could pose a significant challenge for the Indian batting lineup in the upcoming Test at Birmingham.
