Once hailed as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw has openly discussed the challenges that have hampered his career.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old cricketer admitted that poor decisions, distractions, and shifting priorities contributed to his decline both on and off the field.
"There are a lot of things... I have taken a lot of wrong decisions in life. I started giving less time to cricket. I admit that there was a distraction," Shaw confessed to News24.
He elaborated on how his dedication to the sport diminished: "I used to practice a lot... I used to bat for 3-4 hours in nets. I never got tired of batting... I used to give 8 hours of practice on the ground. Now it is 4 hours."
Shaw acknowledged the negative influence of his social circle during his rise to prominence. "I made some wrong friends... Then they took me here and there... Then I got away from the track."
Prithvi Shaw burst onto the international scene in 2018 with a remarkable Test debut, scoring a century against the West Indies. This led to comparisons to legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. However, a lack of discipline and fitness issues soon caused him to lose favor. His struggles included being dropped by Mumbai due to fitness concerns and going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.
Now, Shaw is determined to revitalize his career.
He has officially left the Mumbai Cricket Association and will be joining Maharashtra as a professional player, seeking a fresh start. In his statement to the MCA, Shaw expressed his gratitude for their support and stated that he believes this move is essential for his development. Despite brief returns to the field, such as his time in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, consistent performances have remained elusive.
With a new team, a revitalized mindset, and a candid acknowledgment of his past errors, Prithvi Shaw is focused on starting anew. It remains to be seen whether this marks the beginning of a successful comeback or a gradual decline from elite cricket. Currently, he is committed to taking the challenging path toward redemption.
