Jayden Seales Sanctioned for Conduct Breach During Test Match
West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), incurring a fine of 15 percent of his match fee. This disciplinary action stems from a breach of the ICC's code of conduct during the first Test match against Australia in Barbados.
Jayden Seales gesturing towards the dressing room after dismissing Pat Cummins.
The specific incident occurred following Seales' dismissal of Australian captain Pat Cummins at Kensington Oval. Seales made a gesture directed towards the dressing room, which was deemed inappropriate by the ICC.
The ICC determined that Seales' actions violated Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. This article pertains to the use of gestures or actions that could incite an aggressive response from a dismissed batter during an international match.
When approached about the incident, Seales minimized the situation. "It did not really mean anything and it was more a bit of frustration. Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn't really anything in it," Seales stated.
In addition to the financial penalty, Seales received one demerit point. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, bringing his total demerit points to two.
Despite the controversy, the West Indies bowling attack, including Seales, displayed a commendable performance on the second day of the Test match against Australia, the World Test Championship runners-up.
The hosts managed to secure a narrow 10-run lead in the first innings, primarily due to a crucial 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket. This partnership involved Shai Hope, who scored 48, and captain Roston Chase, who contributed 44 runs.
Australia's second innings began poorly, reaching 92 for 4 wickets, with an overall lead of 82 runs. Seales further contributed by claiming his sixth wicket of the match, dismissing Josh Inglis for 12.
As the match progresses into day three, the balance remains precarious. Travis Head, with 13 runs, and Beau Webster, with 19 runs, are poised to resume batting for Australia.
